Dr. Clarke Nelson graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Physics from Vanderbilt University and with distinction from the honors program for his undergraduate dissertation in nuclear physics. He went on to earn a combined M.D./Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut where he defended his Ph.D. dissertation on implantable biomaterials before graduating from the Medical School. Upon graduation, Dr. Nelson attended Mercy Medical Center for his Internship followed by Howard University Hospital for his Residency in Ophthalmology.
At the University of Connecticut, Dr. Nelson served as the President of the Medical and Dental student body and won the MD/ PhD Leadership Award. He was voted Top Intern by the nursing staff during his internship and served as Chief Resident in his final year of his Residency. His accomplishments include 15 peer-reviewed publications and 19 presentations across the country.
Born in Annapolis and raised in Cockeysville, Dr. Nelson now finds his home in Phoenix, Maryland with his golden retriever, Luna. When not in the office, Dr. Nelson enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Ironman races, gardening, cooking and hiking.
